Apple Spice Cake 

An easy to make chai spice cake filled with caramelized apples. It's topped with a brown butter cream cheese buttercream and salted maple caramel. Aka, it's fall as a cake! 

In a medium sauce pan cook down cubed apples with butter, maple syrup and cinnamon. Puree 1 cup to use in the cake.

Step 1:  

Preheat the oven to 350 F. Line two 9" cake pans with parchment paper along the bottom.Whisk together the flours, baking soda, baking powder, chai or pumpkin spice and salt.

Step 2:  

In stand mixer beat oil and room temperature butter until smooth and well combined. Beat in a slow stream of sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs, vanilla extract and cooled caramelized apples until fully combined.

Step 3:  

Evenly pour cake batter into each of the prepared cake pans. Bake at 350 F for 30-35 minutes. Once baked, rest cakes in the pan for 10-15 minutes on a cooling rack. Invert the cake onto the cooling rack to cool to room temperature.

Step 4:  

Make the frosting. Cream together the brown butter and cream cheese until smooth and well combined. Mix in sifted powdered sugar, vanilla extract and salt until smooth and well combined. 

Step 5:  

Make the maple caramel. Pour maple syrup into a small or medium sauce pan. Allow maple syrup to boil without stirring until it reaches 230 F. Once it reaches this temperature, remove from heat, whisk in butter until fully combined, heavy cream and salt. 

Step 6:  

Assemble the cake on a cake stand, slice and enjoy!
