Equipment

Ingredients

Baked Cinnamon Donut

  • cups (180 g) all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg or cardamom
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup (100 g) light brown sugar
  • 1 large egg (US), room temperature
  • ¼ cup (59 ml) milk, room temperature
  • ¼ cup (60 g) sour cream, room temperature
  • 4 tbsp (57 g) unsalted butter, melted

Cinnamon Sugar Topping

  • ½ cup (113 g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup (200 g) graunlated sugar
  • 2 -3 (6-9 g) ground cinnamon

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 (177 C). Grease a 6 ct. donut pan or muffin pan (see expert tips).
  • In a large bowl, whisk the flour, baking powder, ground cinnamon, nutmeg or cardamom and salt together until well combined.
  • In another large bowl, pour the light brown sugar, egg, sour cream, milk and vanilla extract. Whisk well to fully combine. Next, whisk in the butter until fully combined.
  • Add the dry ingredients to the wet. Whisk well until smooth and fully combined with no lumps.
  • Spoon or pipe about one heaping tablespoon of maple donut batter into each of the prepared donut cavities in the donut pan. This should fill about ¾ of each cavity of the donut pan.
  • Bake the donuts for about 8-10 minutes. The donuts are done when the tops bounce back quickly when lightly pressed. Cool the donuts in the pan for 5 minutes before gently taking them out to cool on a cooling rack.
  • While the cinnamon donuts cool, melt the butter in one bowl and whisk the cinnamon and sugar until well combined.
  • Dip both sides of the cooled donut into the melted butter. Quickly roll the entire baked donut into the cinnamon sugar mixture. Place each cinnamon sugar donut on the cooling rack. Repeat until all the donuts are coated in the sweet and crunchy coating and enjoy!

Notes

Store donuts at room temperature: These cinnamon sugar donuts are truly best when enjoyed the same day they are made. If needed, place them in a single layer in an airtight container. Store them at room temperature for 2 days.
Can I make these cinnamon sugar baked donuts in different pan? Yes! If you don’t have a donut pan and still want to make this baked donuts recipe, use a muffin pan instead! Fill each cavity of a 12 ct. muffin pan ¾ full. Bake at 350 F (177 C) for 18 - 20 minutes or until the tops of the muffins bounce back when gently pressed.
