Maple Cookies Recipe

Maple cookies are soft and chewy brown sugar cookies filled with maple flavor. These maple sugar cookies are rolled in a spiced sugar coating are topped with a creamy maple glaze.  The best thing about these glazed maple syrup cookies is they’re an easy to make, quick chill cookie recipe.

Equipment

  • 1 whisk and flexible spatula or spoon
  • 1 medium (2 tablespoon, 30 ml) cookie scoop optional
  • 2 baking sheets
  • 2 parchment paper

Ingredients
  

Maple Cookies

  • 1 cup (226 g) unsalted butter
  • cups (300 g) all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup (150 g) light brown sugar
  • ½ cup (100 g) granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup (49 ml) maple syrup
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 large egg yolk, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon maple extract

Cinnamon Sugar

  • ¼ cup (50 g) granulated sugar
  • teaspoons ground cinnamon

Maple Glaze

  • 1 cup (120 g) powdered sugar, sifted
  • 3 - 4 tablespoons (45 - 60 ml) maple syrup
  • 1 - 2 tablespoons (15 - 30 ml) melted butter

Instructions
 

  • In a small bowl, melt the butter and cool in the fridge for about 15 minutes.

  • In another bowl whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cornstarch and salt until well combined. 
    2½ cups (300 g) all purpose flour, 1 teaspoon cornstarch, 1 teaspoon baking powder, ¼ teaspoon baking soda, ½ teaspoon salt
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk in the cooled melted butter with the light brown and granulated sugars until well combined. Whisk in the egg, egg yolk, maple syrup, vanilla extract and maple extract until smooth and well combined. 
    Stir the dry ingredients into the wet until just combined.
    ¾ cup (150 g) light brown sugar, ½ cup (100 g) granulated sugar , ¼ cup (49 ml) maple syrup, 1 large egg, room temperature, 1 large egg yolk, room temperature, 1 teaspoon (5 ml) vanilla extract , 1 teaspoon maple extract
  • Preheat the oven to 375 F (190 C) for about 20-30 minutes before baking the cookies. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Allow the dough to rest while the oven preheats for 30 minutes.
  • In a small bowl, whisk the ground cinnamon with sugar until well combined. Using a medium cookie scoop (2 tablespoons, 30 ml), scoop the maple sugar cookie dough, roll the dough ball into the spiced sugar and place the cookie dough balls onto the lined baking sheet about 3 inches (8 cm) apart. 
    ¼ cup (50 g) granulated sugar, 1½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • Bake at 375 F (190 C) for 9 - 11 minutes or until the edges of the cookies are set and the centers are slightly puffed. 
    Cool the chewy maple cookies on the baking sheet for 5 minutes. Then transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely to room temperature.
  • Make maple syrup glaze while the cookies cool. In a bowl, whisk the melted butter and maple syrup into the powdered sugar until smooth and well combined. 
    Drizzle the top of each cookie with the maple syrup icing and enjoy!

Notes

Store: Place the maple cookies in an airtight container. Store at room temperature for up to 5 days.  If you would like to store the cookies for longer, I recommend freezing them.
