Substitutions
This simple honey butter spread is meant to be quick and easy, but sometimes you may not have everything on hand. If you need them, here are my recommended substitutions for this recipe:
- Unsalted Butter: Use a good quality butter for the tastiest results. I love using Kerry Gold. Feel free to use salted butter or a plant based butter. If using salted, omit the added salt.
- Honey: Use your preferred honey. Make sure the honey has a nice, strong honey flavor for the best whipped honey butter.
- Powdered Sugar: Add some powdered sugar acts as a stabilizer for the butter. It also creates a smoother and creamier texture.

- Place the room temperature butter in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with paddle attachment. With the mixer set to low, smooth the butter across the bottom of the bowl. Increase the speed to high for 1 - 2 minutes or until the butter becomes light and fluffy. Once the butter is light and fluffy mix in the honey and powdered sugar on low for about 30 seconds or until well combined. Then increase the speed to medium - medium high speed for 1 - 2 minutes. For fluffier honey butter, continue to cream the honey and butter mixture for about 5 minutes.

M’s Expert Tips
- Use room temperature butter. Room temperature butter is soft and slightly cool to the touch. Press a finger into the center of the butter. Your finger should easily leave an imprint without sliding off the side.
- Use your favorite honey. Use a good quality honey you already love. Keep in mind that the more flavorful the honey, the more flavorful the whipped honey butter will be.
- Taste and adjust the flavor as needed. Everyone has a different preference for salty and sweet. Start off by adding the ingredient amounts listed in the recipe. If needed add more honey or even a pinch of salt to reach your personal preference and tastes.
- Add more flavor. Add cinnamon for a copycat Roadhouse honey butter. Other flavorful spices include vanilla extract, ginger and nutmeg. Add some orange or lemon zest for a light and bright citrus flavor.
