Why Should You Make This Recipe

Take a look around my blog and you’ll see how much I love incorporating maple into my favorite fall recipes. Some of the best maple recipes on my blog are my Maple Donuts, Maple Cookies and Maple Mascarpone Cheesecake.  I am so excited to add this homemade butter recipe to the blog. I know you’ll love it just as much as I do because:

  • It’s quick and easy to make. This whipped maple flavored butter takes about 5 minutes to make. Just mix together good quality butter with maple syrup and cinnamon.
  • Easy way to bring fall flavor to breakfast. Made with two of the coziest fall flavors, this whipped butter is the perfect topping for anything from Sweet Cream Pancakes, Brown Butter Banana Bread or Cinnamon Muffins.

Ingredients

This homemade butter with maple syrup is made from simple basic pantry ingredients. Here’s what you need.

Gather butter, ground cinnamon, salt and maple syrup.

Substitutions

This simple maple spread is meant to be quick and easy, but sometimes you may not have everything on hand. If you need them, here are my recommended substitutions for this recipe:

  • Unsalted Butter: Use a good quality butter for the tastiest results. I love using Kerry Gold. Feel free to use salted butter or a plant based butter. If using salted, omit the added salt.
  • Ground Cinnamon: The warm, sweet and spicy flavor of cinnamon pairs well maple. Feel free to omit the cinnamon or use a spice blend like pumpkin or apple pie.
  • Maple Syrup: I love using organic maple syrup from Vermont, New York or Canada. For a sugar free alternative try Lakanto. Keep in mind that the darker the maple syrup, the more maple flavor.  Look for words such as “Amber, Dark, Grade B, or Robust” fro the best flavor of maple syrup.

How To Make

Learn how to make maple butter in a two easy steps.

  1. Place the room temperature butter in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with whisk attachment. With the mixer set to low, smooth the butter across the bottom of the bowl. Increase the speed to high for 1 - 2 minutes or until the butter becomes light and fluffy. Once the butter is light and fluffy mix the salt and ground cinnamon on low for about 30 seconds or until well combined. Scrape the sides and bottom of the mixing bowl. With the mixer on low stream the maple syrup into the spiced butter. Once the maple syrup is fully incorporated, increase the mixing speed to medium for 30 seconds. Taste and adjust the flavor as needed.
  2. Transfer the maple butter to a serving dish. Top with more maple syrup if you like and enjoy.

How To Serve and Store

  • Serve: This creamy whipped butter is best served with any dish you would normally want to add butter and something sweet such as pancakes, muffins, french toast or waffles.
  • Store: This whipped maple spread can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week or in the freezer for up to one month. Thaw the butter in the fridge overnight. Then bring the butter to room temperature and re-whip to your desired consistency before serving.

M’s Expert Tips

  • Use room temperature butter. Room temperature butter is soft and slightly cool to the touch. Press a finger into the center of the butter. Your finger should easily leave an imprint without sliding off the side.
  • Use real maple syrup. Do not use maple flavored syrup. Look for words such as “dark, amber, grade B or robust” for the best tasting maple syrup.
  • Taste and adjust the flavor as needed. Everyone has a different preference for salty and sweet. Start off by adding the ingredient amounts listed in the recipe. If needed add more salt or maple syrup for your personal preference and tastes.
