Substitutions
Here are my recommended substitutions for this 3 ingredient fudge recipe if you need them.
- Sweetened Condensed Milk: There isn’t a great sweetened condensed milk substitute for this no fail fudge recipe. However, coconut condensed milk can be used in place of sweetened condensed milk if needed.
- Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips: To balance out the sweetness of the condensed milk I recommend semi sweet or dark chocolate chips instead of milk chocolate. I used Toll House chocolate chips.
- Butter: Feel free to use your preferred butter. Margarine is not recommended. Salted or unsalted butter works perfectly for this chocolate fudge recipe.

Variations
- Toppings: For even more flavorful and customizable fudge, top it with any of these suggested toppings: Mini peanut butter cups, chopped nuts, mini chocolate chips, sprinkles, crushed pretzels or roughly chopped Oreo cookies.
- Microwave Method: Melt 2 cups (340 g) semi sweet or dark chocolate chips with 14 oz. sweetened condensed milk in a large microwave safe bowl for about 2 - 3 minutes, stopping every 30 seconds to stir really well or until the mixture is completely smooth. Pour the fudge into a foil or parchment paper lined pan. Evenly smooth the top. Chill the fudge in the fridge for at least 2 - 3 hours and up to overnight or until the fudge is set.
How To Make
Learn how to make 3 ingredients fudge in a couple of easy steps.

- Line a 8x8 (20 cm) or 9x9 (23 cm) pan on the bottom and all sides with parchment paper or foil. Pour the sweetened condensed milk, chocolate chips and butter slices into a small pan or saucepan. Heat the mixture over medium-low heat. Once the chocolate and butter begin to melt, stir the mixture constantly to ensure even heating and melting. Once the mixture transforms into the consistency of frosting, remove the pan from the heat.
- Scoop or pour the warm fudge mixture from the hot cooking pan into the prepared pan. Evenly smooth the mixture using the back of a spoon or frosting knife to smooth the top of the fudge. Transfer the fudge to the fridge to set for 2 - 3 hours and up to overnight (recommended). To remove, run a knife along any unlined edges of the pan. Use the excess parchment to lift the fudge out of the pan. Slice into your desired number of pieces and enjoy.
How To Store, Freeze and Thaw
- Store: Transfer any leftover pieces of fudge into an airtight container to be stored in the fridge. This no fail chocolate fudge keeps well in the fridge for up to 4 weeks.
- Freeze: Line the bottom of a freezer safe container with parchment paper. Place the leftover fudge in a single layer. If two layers are needed, line the first layer of fudge with more parchment paper. Store in the freezer for up to 6 months.
- Thaw: Transfer your desired number of pieces into the fridge to thaw overnight. Enjoy straight from the fridge.

M’s Expert Tips
- Use low to medium heat. It’s easy for chocolate to seize. To avoid this make sure to cook the fudge over low- medium heat. As the chocolate and butter begin to melt, make sure to stir constantly. This ensures evenly melting and mixing of the ingredients.
- Look for consistency versus time spent cooking. This best indicator that this fudge is ready is by the texture of the mixture. The fudge should resemble a chocolate frosting consistency.
- Customize the fudge. Add any toppings right after smoothing out the fudge. Gently press the toppings into the fudge to ensure they stick.
