Substitutions
If you need them, here are my recommended substitutions for this pineapple and chocolate treat.
- Pineapple: Feel free to use fresh or frozen pineapples. Canned pineapple can be used, but must be patted very dry or the melted chocolate will not stick.
- Dark Chocolate: I love the taste of dark chocolate with the sweet and tropical flavor of pineapples. Milk chocolate and dark chocolate candy melts are good alternatives. If you love white chocolate, feel free to use that instead.
- Coconut Oil: This is strictly for appearance and very optional. Adding a teaspoon or two to chocolate gives it a smooth and glossy shine after it cools and hardens. Feel free to skip this ingredient if you like.
How To Make
Learn how to make chocolate covered pineapple in three easy steps.

- Using a sharp knife, slice the pineapple to remove the pointy outer layer. Slice the pineapple into rings, spears or chunks. Place the sliced pineapple onto paper towels to soak up any excess liquid. If you’re using frozen pineapple, thaw the pineapple slightly for a few minutes at room temperature. Pat the slightly thawed pineapple with a paper towel before covering with chocolate.
- Line a sheet pan with parchment paper or wax paper and set aside for now. Pour the dark, milk or white chocolate and coconut oil (if using) into a large microwave safe bowl. Heat in 30 second increments in the microwave until the chocolate is fully melted. Stir the chocolate in between each increment.

3. Dip each of the pineapple chunks, slices or rings into the melted chocolate until both sides are coated in the melted chocolate. Place the chocolate coated pineapples onto the prepared baking sheet. Top with your preferred toppings. Chill the dipped pineapple in the fridge for about an hour or in the freezer for about 30 - 45 minutes.
How To Store
Store: Chocolate dipped pineapple is best enjoyed the same day it is made. Transfer leftover chocolate covered pineapples to an airtight container in the the fridge for up one 3 days. I do not recommend freezing and thawing the chocolate dipped pineapple.

M’s Expert Tips
- Make sure the pineapple is cold. Cold pineapple holds onto the melted chocolate better than room temperature pineapple. Flash freeze room temperature pineapple for 15 minutes before dipping into the chocolate or store the pineapple in the fridge until it’s time to dip the pineapple into the melted chocolate.
- Dry both sides of the pineapple right before dipping into the chocolate. Press both sides of the pineapple on a paper towel right before dipping into the chocolate. If the pineapple is wet, the chocolate may not stick.
- Stir the chocolate frequently. This prevents the milk, dark or white chocolate from burning and also promotes even melting. Be careful not to heat the chocolate too much. It should be warm touch.
- Setting the chocolate covered pineapples. Place them on parchment paper or wax paper. Transfer to the fridge or freezer to set them faster. They will eventually dry at room temperature, but it does take longer. Another option is to use a chocolate meant for covering fruit. This type of chocolate dries quickly at room temperature.
- Add toppings if you like. Shredded coconut, chopped nuts, sprinkles or even more chocolate (drizzle or mini chocolate chips) are perfect to top the chocolate dipped pineapple.
