Substitutions
This recipe for frozen yogurt bars can be made using any combination of ingredients. To make this high protein peanut butter and fruit version, you can make a few simple swaps if you don’t have everything you need.
- Vanilla Yogurt: The best yogurt to use to make frozen yogurt desserts is one with a good amount of fat. I love using whole milk yogurt like vanilla yogurt or greek yogurt. If the yogurt isn’t sweetened, feel free to sweeten the yogurt with honey or maple syrup to your preferred tastes.
- Peanut Butter: I like to use regular peanut butter that’s been stirred really well. Feel free to use your favorite peanut butter, salted peanut butter, crunchy peanut butter or creamy peanut butter. If needed, use cashew butter for the closest tasting nut butter that’s not peanut butter. Use sunflower butter for a non nut spread that tastes similar to peanut butter.
- Ground Cinnamon: This is for another layer of flavor. Feel free to omit or use another ground spice that you like. Cinnamon pairs really well with berries and other fruit. It also brings another hint of sweetness.
- Strawberry Jam: This is for a bit more sweetness. Feel free to omit, use a low sugar version or make your own fruit jam.
- Chopped Peanuts: I like topping my frozen yogurt bark or bars with something crunchy. Chop the same type of nut as the nut butter used to mix into the yogurt. Granola would also be a tasty topping.
- Fresh Strawberries: Make sure to thinly slice the berries. This makes slicing and eating the frozen strawberries so much easier. Feel free to use any berries you like. Sliced bananas would also be delicious.

Variations
- Make any variation of frozen yogurt bars by following this ingredient ratio: Choose 1 ½ - 2 cups of your favorite creamy yogurt. If the yogurt is unsweetened, add a sweetener of your choice, to your taste. Honey or maple syrup would be delicious. Mix in ¼ - ½ cup nut butter, cream cheese or melted chocolate. Add ½ - 1 teaspoon flavor boosters like ground spices or vanilla extract. Then add ¼ - ½ cup of your favorite toppings such fresh fruit, chopped nuts, fruit jam, granola or coconut flakes.
- Cheesecake Frozen Yogurt Bars: Capture your favorite cheesecake flavor in these yogurt bark bars by swapping nut butter for the same amount of room temperature cream cheese and omit the chopped nuts. Follow the rest of the recipe as written. Top with a white chocolate drizzle for even more decadent flavor.
- Chocolate Covered Yogurt Bars or Clusters: Swap out the jam for melted chocolate. Instead of swirling the chocolate into the yogurt, freeze the yogurt clusters or bars until set. Then top with melted chocolate and return to the freezer to set.
