Substitutions
Here are my recommended substitutions for this 3 ingredient fudge recipe if you need them.
- Pretzels: The easiest and best pretzel to use to make these Rolo pretzel “cookies” is a square shaped pretzel from Synder’s called “snaps.” A small round pretzel would also work in a pinch.
- Rolo Candy: These are the perfect sized chocolate and caramel candies to top the pretzels. If you can’t find this specific brand, I recommend using another chocolate covered caramel candy.
- M&M’s or Nuts: This topping choice is entirely yours. For something sweet and festive, I suggest holiday color M&M’s. For something a bit more salty, I recommend using toasted nuts such as pecans to make these candies as Rolo pretzel turtles.
How To Make
Learn how to make Rolo pretzels in a couple of easy steps.

- Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Preheat the oven to 300 F (149 C). Place your preferred number of pretzels on top of the lined baking sheets. Top each of the pretzels with one Rolo candy. Try to get the candy in the center of the pretzel as much as possible.
- Bake the Rolo topped pretzels just long enough for the chocolate to look shiny and slightly melted. This takes about 3 minutes. Remove the baking sheet from the oven to a cooling rack. As soon as the pretzels come out of the oven, top the Rolo candy with your preferred choice of toppings. Press a festive color M&M or pecans into the center of the slightly melted chocolate. Alternatively, top the Rolo candy with another pretzel to make a little Rolo pretzel sandwich “cookie.” Transfer the pretzels to chill in the freezer for about 15 minutes or the fridge to chill for about 30 minutes.
How To Store, Freeze and Thaw
- Store: Transfer any leftover pieces of Rolo pretzel bites into an airtight container to be stored at room temperature for about 1 week.
- Freeze: Allow the rolo candy cookies to fully chill in the fidge or freezer. Transfer them to an airtight and freezer proof container to store in the freezer for up to 2 months.
- Thaw: Transfer your preferred amount of candy to thaw in the fridge or room temperature.

M’s Expert Tips
- Keep an eye on the pretzels. Once the pretzel candies go into the oven, they don’t need long, only 2 - 3minutes to soften just enough to press a candy, nut or to top with another pretzel.
- Top with festive candy. These pretzel Rolos are delicious just as they are, but as especially fun to eat when topped with colorful candy.
- Chill the Rolo pretzels. After topping the Rolo with candy, the chocolate and caramel need time to fully reset after being softened in the oven. The candy sets more quickly when chilled in the fridge or freezer.
FAQs
Yes, make sure the pretzels are gluten free. M&M’s and Rolo candy are already gluten free. M&M’s are not labeled as such due to the risk of cross contamination.
The chocolate should look shiny on top, but should still have a firm shape. This usually happens after 2 - 3 minutes of baking.
These Rolo candy pretzels can be topped with colorful candy of your choice to match the colors of the holiday you are celebrating. Another fun choice is to top the chocolate with another pretzel to create a little “sandwich cookie,” then dipping the entire sandwich candy in melted chocolate. Top with festive sprinkles.
