Substitutions
If you need them, here are my recommended substitutions for these strawberries with white chocolate:
- Strawberries: Feel free to use fresh or organic strawberries. More fun fruit options would be fresh apples or pineapples.
- White Chocolate: I highly recommend using a good quality white chocolate for dipping. Milk chocolate and dark chocolate candy melts are good alternatives. Avoid using white chocolate chips if possible. The best white chocolate for dipping strawberries are a bar or candy melts.
Variations
Black and White Chocolate Marbled Strawberries: Melt white chocolate in one bowl and semi sweet or dark chocolate in another bowl. Drop a couple of teaspoons of semi sweet chocolate into the white chocolate. Dip the strawberry into the white chocolate, gently swirl and twist as you pull the berry out of the white chocolate. Repeat with more chocolate as needed until all the fruit has been dipped.
Chocolate Drizzle: Dip the strawberries into the melted white chocolate. Place the berries onto a parchment or wax paper lined pan or plate. Drizzle semi sweet or milk chocolate on top of the berries.
Caramelized White Chocolate: Caramelized white chocolate is a slow roasted white chocolate that tastes like dulce de leche and pairs perfectly with strawberries. Make the caramelized white chocolate and follow the white chocolate covered strawberries recipe as written.
Toppings: Use crushed toffee candy, finely chopped nuts or holiday themed sprinkles. Just make sure to top the dipped strawberries within a minute or two of covering them in white chocolate. This is especially important when using candy melts as they harden quickly.
How To Make
Learn how to make white chocolate covered strawberries in a few easy steps.
- Wash and pat dry the strawberries. Remove any leaves that have began wilting or could be slimy. Place the white chocolate into a small bowl or large microwave safe cup.
- Heat the white chocolate in 20 second increments in the microwave until the chocolate is fully melted. Stir the white chocolate in between each increment. Once the chocolate has melted dip the strawberry into the white chocolate at least half way up the berry. I prefer to dip the berry about ¾ of the way to top. Place the white chocolate dipped strawberry onto a parchment or wax paper lined baking sheet or large plate. Using a fork or spoon, drizzle any leftover white chocolate on top of the dipped fruit. If you are adding any other toppings, make sure to add them now.
- Leave the white chocolate covered strawberries to set at room temperature. The berries take about 15-20 minutes to set.
How To Store
Store leftover white chocolate covered strawberries: In an airtight container at room temperature for up to one day. For longer storage transfer them in the fridge for up 2 days.
M’s Expert Tips
- Wash and fully dry the strawberries. Make sure all parts of the berry are dry before dipping them into the white chocolate.
- Stir the chocolate frequently. This prevents the white chocolate from burning and also promotes even melting. Be careful not to heat the chocolate too much. It should be warm touch.
- Use white chocolate melting wafers or white chocolate bars. They melt faster and more evenly.
- Set the white chocolate strawberries on parchment paper or wax paper. Transfer to the fridge to set them faster.
- Top the strawberries within 1-2 minutes of dipping them in the white chocolate. Candy melts or white chocolate candy coating sets quickly even at room temperature.
FAQs
Strawberries should be room temperature before dipping them in the chocolate.
This is best accomplished by making and serving the white chocolate strawberries the same day they are made. Leave them uncovered in a cool, dry place to enjoy for up to 10 hours after they are made.
Lower the microwave power to 50%, heat the white chocolate for 20 seconds at a time and make sure to stir the chocolate in between each round of heating.
