Substitutions
This simple fruit whip dip is meant to be quick and easy, but sometimes you may not have everything on hand. If you need them, here are my recommended substitutions for this recipe:
- Cream Cheese: Mascarpone cheese would be the easiest substitute for cream cheese.
- Powdered Sugar: Maple sugar would be good refined sugar free substitute. Granulated sugar will also work well to sweeten the cream cheese.
- Vanilla Extract: This provides a nice background flavor to the fruit dip. Feel free to omit if you don’t have any on hand.
- Cool Whip: I typically prefer making my own whipped cream, but for this dip, I found that cool whip was more stable and held together for days.

Variations
- 2 Ingredient Cool Whip Fruit Dip: Mix 8 oz. Cool Whip with a 3.4 oz. packet of jello instant pudding mix until well combined. Feel free to use whatever flavor you like. Vanilla pudding or strawberry pudding mix would both be delicious choices.
- Cool Whip Dip with Yogurt: Another 2 ingredient variation is mixing 16 oz. cool whip with 8 - 10 oz. strawberry yogurt until well combined.
- 3 Ingredient Cool Whip Dip: Mix 8 oz. of cream cheese with 8 oz. cool whip and 7 oz. marshmallow creme or fluff until well combined.
- Strawberry Yogurt Cool Whip Dip: Mix 8 oz. cool whip with 6 tablespoons instant strawberry jello mix and 1 cup greek yogurt until well combined.

M’s Expert Tips
- Bring the cream cheese to room temperature. This allows the ingredients to mix together more evenly and lessens the chance of the cream cheese splitting.
- Thaw the cool whip. Make sure to thaw the cool whip before using in the fruit dip recipe. I like to transfer the cool whip from the freezer to the fridge the night before.
FAQs
For most recipes, including this fruit dip with cool whip recipe, canned whipped cream can be substituted. The final end result or texture could be slightly different, but it will still be delicious.
